Diet:    plants, algae and detritus

Personal notes:  I purchased 2 male and 4 female Thoracochromis brauschi from a local aquarium store in December of 2005.  I was surprised to see such a rare fish for sale in an aquarium store.  The store owner told me they were imported from Checkeslovakia.  This was the most money I had ever spent on fish, but it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.  I kept them in a 46 gallon bowfront successfully for a couple years until I lost them to disease.  They never bred for me and died before they reached their full adult size.

They've become at least a little more available these days and I was able to buy another colony in November of 2013 at the Ohio Cichlid Extravaganza.

The dominant male above is always srutting his stuff.

Above the dominant male is in the center surrounded by three females.  This was the colony I purchased in 2005.

Above is one of the females
