Personal notes: The Denver Zoo released some of their finebar scrapers to a member of the local Denver club. That hobbyist bred them and sent some of the fry to a member of the Ohio Cichlid Association (OCA). The OCA victorian enthusiast in turn bred another generation of finebar scrapers.
I bought 14 of these finebar scarpers from that OCA breeder in July of 2004 and initially placed them in a 40 gallon long grow out tank. Within weeks, the tiny little one inch female (see below) was holding. I found this to be a small very active Victorian. While there was lots of chasing, there was never any damage done, not even a bit of fin-nipping.

The above pictures show a young 1" (2.5 cm) holding female:
Pictures above show the 2" (5 cm) adult female. As they got a bit older, the females changed from bright silver to more of a checkered grey pattern.
