Name:   Haplochromis lividus "Murchison Bay" (Greenwood 1956)

Synonym:   Haplochromis sp. "Murchison Bay"

Common name:

Location:    Murchison Bay, Lake Victoria (Uganda shores)

Adult size:  4 inches (10 cm)

Diet:    omnivore

Personal notes:  This species was brought to the US by Lawrence Kent.  He was able to collect a holding female from Murchison Bay off the shores of Uganda.  I was able to obtain a colony of 16 F2 fry at the ACA Convention in Louisville in July of 2014.  I've been keeping them in a single species 55 gallon tank.  They are very aggressive and very prolific as well.  Unfortunately, I've grown out quite a few broods only to find that the market for this species is small.  I assume that the aggressiveness as well as how easily they breed has something to do with this.
