Personal notes:  I received a trio of Mbipia lutea "Makobe Island" in a shipment from Germany in May of 2010.  They bred twice at a fairly small size.  I kept the first group of 13 fry and raised them and I distributed the second group to some serious Victorian hobbyests.  In October of 2011, this new colony bred for the first time.  There were numerous unfertilized eggs spit in the tank and only around six survivors from this first group.  I then had 3M:7F in a single species 55 gallon tank.  There are always multiple females holding yet the brood size is always small with multiple unfertilized eggs.

Above is the dominant male around 2 1/2 years old and 5 1/2 inches (14 cm) total length.

Above is the second generation dominant (around 4", 10 cm) male from the first brood of the German fish.  This is an aggressive species.

Above is the next generation Mbipia lutea at around 1.5 years old

The above male is around six months old

Above are the Mbipia lutea from Germany breeding for the first time.  The male harrassed his two females to death after breeding twice.  I sold the lone surviving male and concentrated on raising the 13 fry from that first brood.

Above you can see some second gereration females.  The vertical barring comes and goes with their mood.

This is the original German female with the fry I've raised.
