Name: Enterochromis paropius (Greenwood & Gee, 1969)
Synonym: Haplochromis sp. "broken bar"
Common name: Broken Bar
Adult size: 3 inches (8 cm)
Diet: detritus eater as well as diatoms and algae
Personal notes: I bought twenty very young Enterochromis paropius at the Ohio Cichlid Association Extravaganza in the fall of 2014. I've found them to be a very peaceful species. They've bred frequently and I've kept a large next generation colony going for years. The only problem I'm having is that I'm getting around 70% males and 30% females thus far. I keep them in a single species 40 gallon long tank.
Above are two of the adults I have in a single species 30 gallon tank
Young 2 inch (5 cm) males above haven't reached their full color potential yet
