Name:    Yssichromis pyrrhocephalus (Frans Witte 2008 & Witte-Maas, 1987)

Common name:    none

Location:   Mwanza Gulf, Lale Victoria

Adult size:   3.5 inches (8 cm)

Diet:    zooplankton

Personal notes:  I bought twelve young (2M:10F)Yssichromis pyrrhocephalus at the Ohio Cichlid Association Extravaganza in the fall of 2015.  They are supposed to be a fairly peaceful species and thus far that has proven to be true.  They are an open water zooplankton species that somehow survived the predation of the nile perch.

Above is the adult male I have in a single species 30 gallon tank with some females

Young 2 inch (5 cm) male above haven't reached their full color potential yet

The colony of Yssichromis pyrrhocephalus females in a 30 gallon tank. (There is no blue tint on the above females.  Tht is a function of the camera flash.)
