Name:   Haplochromis thereuterion (Van Oijen & Witt 1996)

Synonym:   Haplochromis sp. "double stripe"

Common name:

Location:    Kissenda Island, Lake Victoria

Adult size:    male = 5 inches (12 cm), female = 4 inches (10 cm)

Diet:    insectivore

Personal notes:  This Victorian didn't exist in the US hobby (as far as I knew) until they were imported from Germany in the spring of 2010.  I was able to obtain a few Haplochromis thereuterion from two different hobbiests in September of 2012.  It's an interesting cichlid as it's shape and color isn't like that of most Victorian cichlids in the hobby.  They bred at a fairly small size with the female spitting 25 extremely tiny fry on June 17, 2013.  I've found this to be a very peaceful Vic.

What was once a rare cichlid in the US is becoming readily available due to it's very prolific nature.  I can harvest a group of fry almost every other week.
